Jenny Duck

Hi, my name is Jenny Duck and I am the newest designer to join the Style on a Shoestring team! I’d like to tell you a little about myself and what I bring to this fabulous design company as the firm’s first on-staff architect.

While I have a diverse background in architecture, my most recent projects were for military housing. This was a terrific learning experience for me because it required speed, efficiency, and meticulous attention to how a space functions. So not only am I able to provide our Style staff with fast and accurate floor plans for remodels, I am able to do so while keeping budget and purpose in mind. That means more satisfaction for clients who of course want their projects to be as painless as possible, whether that means a shorter “dust” phase or a friendlier price tag.

But that “functionality” component is just as important. With military housing, I was responsible for including appropriate clearances and technical aspects that met military standards. Yet even our personal homes are most useful (and retain the highest resale value) when we plan for all possible issues too. For example, a big concern today is remodeling a home not just for today but for later, when the residents enter their senior years and perhaps need space for a wheelchair, or require load-bearing grab bars in the bathroom. If we remodel now with those future essentials in place, we achieve cost savings and less inconvenience for the homeowner.

Collaborating on projects at Style has also allowed me to combine my technical skills with the other pleasurable parts of design. For instance, I’ve been working on some fun children’s bedrooms that have really allowed me to push the limits of my creativity. The Style team is really inspiring when we brainstorm together, and I know I do my best work in that environment.
